New on-demand curb-to-curb service creates mobility in underserved rural area
DURHAM, N.C., June 11, 2019 — TransLoc, a Ford Smart Mobility company,* launched a new on-demand microtransit program in partnership with the Rock Island County Metropolitan Mass Transit District (MetroLINK). The program serves riders in the Village of Milan, south of Rock Island, Illinois.
MetroLINK pursued the microtransit pilot with TransLoc because of its dynamic technical solutions and unique agency-owned approach, giving MetroLINK offerings that enhance the mobility needs of the Quad Cities area.
“We are excited about our partnership with TransLoc,” said MetroLINK Manager of Operations Chelsey Hohensee. “We look forward to providing another option for our riders so they have more transit choices that include fixed route options as well as microtransit.”
With TransLoc’s smartphone app, riders can schedule trips on-demand, then dedicated microtransit vehicles will arrive at the customers’ locations and carry them to their destination. The system will intelligently group rides together to enhance efficiency and reduce traffic congestion.
The pilot program will allow the transit agency to test microtransit scenarios to fit the unique mobility needs of the Quad Cities area, while receiving 24/7 support from TransLoc. TransLoc will provide ongoing information to MetroLINK throughout the program to evaluate the operations of the microtransit system, including key performance indicators such as ridership, productivity and cost.
