New in-app features make accessing polling information easier for riders
DURHAM, N.C., October 19, 2020 – TransLoc, innovator of transit software solutions, revolutionizing the way people move, is proud to announce its participation this election season in helping to get out the vote by integrating polling locations and quick access to voter information within the TransLoc app, the company’s rider-facing mobile app helping transit riders with 600 million transit trips annually.
As part of TransLoc’s commitment to equitable transportation, the company saw a need in communities where constituents rely on public transportation to help identify and navigate to polling locations. Recognizing the importance of exercising our fundamental rights, TransLoc surveyed nearly 1,500 users in its TransLoc app to determine how to best build a solution to fill that gap. With over 30% of respondents saying they were unsure of how to get to their voting location, 35% saying they were unsure of their polling location, and 75% of respondents saying the idea of voting locations shown in app would be helpful, TransLoc set out to build a product that would help riders on their journey to vote.
The project was launched in two phases. Phase one introduced a “vote” button on the home screen of the TransLoc app that ushered users to vote.gov, an official website of the United States Government designed to assist citizens in registering to vote, locate polling stations and gather information necessary to create a voting plan. Phase two, which launched today, shows polling locations directly in-app, easing rider concerns about where to vote and how they can get to the polls. As more states begin to submit polling locations to the Voting Information Project, the TransLoc app map will auto-populate with the newly-added polling locations.
