young women attending a coding class

One of the ways we connect with potential customers and existing clients is by exhibiting at a variety of trade show events throughout the year. Our team loves connecting with people and introducing TransLoc’s products and services. And while we’ll always have pens and stickers at our booths, this year we decided to skip the pricier swag and do something a little different. We’ll be donating $1 for each event attendee who joins our mailing list by scanning a QR code at our upcoming exhibit events.

While researching non-profits to support with our donation, we learned that women are underrepresented in tech, with only 24% of computing jobs being held by women, according to the National Center for Women & Information Technology. So, as a software company (with many women on the team), we decided to support Girl Develop It with our donations.

Girl Develop It is a nonprofit organization that provides opportunities for women to learn web and software development in a supportive and inclusive community. They offer in-person and virtual classes and workshops that cover a range of technical topics, from HTML and CSS to SQL and Python. Their courses are taught by volunteer instructors who are experienced developers and are passionate about supporting women in tech. In addition to classes, Girl Develop It also hosts networking events, hackathons, and other community-building activities. The organization is committed to creating a welcoming environment for women of all skill levels, backgrounds, and identities.

Organizations like Girl Develop It are playing an important role in helping women develop the confidence and knowledge they need to pursue careers in technology and make a positive impact in the industry.
