Switch Aids Public Bus Network in Providing Easier, More Reliable Transportation

DURHAM, N.C., August 2,  2021, – TransLoc, a leader in transit orchestration software and a part of the Ford mobility portfolio, was selected to optimize the rider experience for Boone, North Carolina’s free public bus network, AppalCART.

As Watauga County’s authority in public transportation, AppalCART aims to provide sustainable, high-quality transportation services to the community it serves. Committed to keeping the High Country moving since 1981, AppalCART currently offers 13 fixed-route and 10 paratransit and rural route services to riders. 

The bus network prioritizes safe, dependable, and courteous service to riders. “The new TransLoc app offers improvements that we feel will better serve our passengers,” said AppalCART Director, Craig Hughes, who switched from another service. “Passengers can expect increased responsiveness and a more user-friendly interface with the new mobile app.” 

TransLoc Account Executive, Trevor Kirsh, follows up, “Through this partnership, AppalCART riders will benefit from increased reliability of real-time bus locations and ETA’s, as well as the ability to plan their trip within the mobile app.” Available in Google Play and Apple app stores, the Transloc app helps users explore nearby transit stops and services, stay up to date with arrival times, bookmark favorite stops, and more. 

AppalCART’s real-time schedules will be available on August 9, 2021 and will return to its usual route schedule on Appalachian State University’s first day of class, August 16, 2021. Additional information can be found on AppalCART’s live-transit webpage
