IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Cary, N.C. — June 2026: TransLoc has introduced Driver–Dispatch Text Chat within its new Driver App, providing transit agencies with an integrated communication capability designed to improve coordination between dispatchers and drivers in fixed route operations.
Communication between dispatch and drivers remains a critical operational workflow. Many agencies continue to rely on radio or phone-based communication, which can introduce delays, interruptions, and inconsistencies when managing multiple vehicles or responding to service changes.
Driver–Dispatch Text Chat addresses this by enabling structured, two-way messaging within the Driver App and dispatch interface, supporting clearer and more timely communication.
Improving Consistency in Daily Communication
Operational communication gaps can result in missed updates, delayed responses, and increased workload across dispatch and operating teams. These challenges are most evident during service disruptions, route adjustments, or time-sensitive updates.
By introducing an integrated messaging capability, Driver–Dispatch Text Chat provides:
- Direct communication between dispatch and drivers
- Reduced reliance on radio-based coordination
- Improved clarity of instructions
- A consistent, documented communication record
Messaging is restricted to when vehicles are safely stopped, supporting operational safety requirements while maintaining communication continuity.
Integrated Within the TransLoc Driver App
Driver–Dispatch Text Chat is part of the new TransLoc Driver App, which consolidates core fixed route operational functions into a single workflow.
The Driver App supports:
- Schedule adherence monitoring
- Anti-bunching and headway management
- Driver-assisted passenger counting (DAPC)
- Driver and dispatch communication
This integrated approach reduces the need for multiple tools and provides drivers and dispatch teams with a shared, real-time view of service performance. Learn more about the TransLoc Driver App
Supporting Operational Efficiency and Visibility
The addition of Driver–Dispatch Text Chat strengthens coordination by improving how information moves across the operation.
Agencies may realise:
- Faster response times to service changes
- Reduced dependence on voice communication
- Greater consistency in dispatch instructions
- Improved visibility through documented messaging
The feature is fully embedded within the Driver App and does not require a separate application or external device.
Advancing Connected Fixed Route Operations
Transit operations are increasingly managed through connected systems that integrate real-time data, communication, and performance monitoring.
The inclusion of Driver–Dispatch Text Chat within the Driver App reflects this shift towards unified operational tools, where communication, schedule performance, and service management are handled within a single environment.
Communication between dispatch and drivers remains one of the more operationally sensitive areas in fixed route service. By integrating Driver–Dispatch Text Chat into the Driver App, agencies can improve how information moves across the operation while keeping communication aligned with the tools teams already use.
