WCAG 2.0 Compliance Update: Accessibility for All

Commitment to accessibility is a top priority

DURHAM, N.C., October 9, 2020 – TransLoc, transit innovators and Ford Mobility subsidiary*, in an ongoing effort to provide all users with an easily accessible and seamless transit experience, announced today it is fully WCAG 2.0 AA compliant, reinforcing the company’s commitment to ensuring its services are accessible to everyone, regardless of abilities.

WCAG, which refers to Web Content Accessibility Guidelines, is published by the World Wide Web Consortium’s Web Accessibility Initiative, and is the world’s main organization for Internet standards. Covering a wide range of recommendations, WCAG is intended to make web content more accessible for persons with blindness and low vision, deafness and hearing loss, learning disabilities, cognitive limitations, limited movement, speech disabilities, photosensitivities and for all user agents, including highly limited devices, such as mobile phones.

Recent updates to the TransLoc app in compliance with WCAG 2.0 include adapting map content into an accessible list, making it possible for accessibility users to explore routes and stops. Enhanced accessibility of interactions, like buttons and gestures, allow riders to more easily navigate to the stops most relevant to them. Screen reader capabilities have been fine tuned to provide a more natural language delivery of information and, if enabled, allow a user’s device to read back the information related to routes, stops, arrival times, OnDemand service cards, and more.

“It is always our mission to ensure that mobility is as accessible and equitable as possible for all transit users,” Ben Haynie, VP of Product at TransLoc said. “By implementing this most recent round of updates, making the TransLoc app fully WCAG 2.0 compliant, we have taken a tremendous step towards better aligning us with our mission to deliver a seamless transit experience for all users regardless of individual financial, educational, and/or physical circumstances.”
