TransLoc Technology Powers AV

Debuts Innovative Service at North Carolina State University

Durham, N.C., February 10, 2020 – TransLoc, a leader in mission-critical technology and transportation software solutions, announced it is providing real-time vehicle tracking software for CASSI, an autonomous vehicle (AV) launching today on the campus of North Carolina State University. This project debuts the first AV in North Carolina.

“Significant change is happening in transportation, and university campuses are becoming innovative testbeds for new and future technologies,” commented Ron Cygnarowicz, Vice President of Clients at TransLoc. “By partnering with NCSU and the North Carolina Department of Transportation, TransLoc is positioned as a leader in powering autonomous vehicle technology.”

CASSI, an acronym for Connected Autonomous Shuttle Supporting Innovation, made its debut last month at the North Carolina Transportation Summit. The shuttle will spend six months operating on a loop around NC State’s Centennial Campus with 3 pre-programmed stops, reacting to sudden changes in environment such as pedestrians, vehicles, or bicycles.

“NC State students and employees have come to rely on TransLoc to plan our transit trips. Naturally, we want to offer that same service to our CASSI customers,” said Mike Kennon, Asst. Director of Planning and Transportation at NC State. “NC State is excited to offer real-time vehicle tracking to the CASSI project. The innovation that TransLoc provides is the perfect complement to the autonomous vehicle research that will be taking place on campus.”

The vehicle runs Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Route schedules and up-to-the-minute locations can be found on the NC State website.
