Tools for accessible transit

At TransLoc, a big piece of our mission has and will continue to be providing users with an equitable transit experience. This commitment has driven our investment in building product features that provide transit opportunities to all users, with accessibility needs and beyond. While the work is never done, we’re excited to share five TransLoc App features we’ve launched this year that riders can take advantage of immediately:

ROUTE DETAIL LIST VIEW
The list view of the route detail allows riders to access route data and arrival times through a list view in addition to the existing map view. For added accessibility, and when enabled, riders’ phones can read back all of the information that is available within the app.

USER INTERFACE ELEMENTS NOW DESCRIBE THEIR PURPOSE

With this feature, accessible-needs users can have the function of each button within the product described to them so they can navigate to steps most pertinent to their transit needs.

SEARCH BUTTON IN ROUTES TAB

To ensure all users can benefit from the interactive map within the app, we’ve added a search button to our Routes tab. This allows users to enter an address into a standard text field and the map will automatically move to that location and load fixed route transit data for the surrounding area.

INCORPORATION OF TEXT VISUALIZATION OF CAPACITY

Now more than ever, providing vehicle capacity information for riders is vital. With this feature, and when APCs are enabled on vehicles, the capacity will not only be available visually, but in text-form.

INTERNATIONALIZATION

Our goal is to provide a multi-language app to reach riders of all languages. Currently, the TransLoc app is available in English and Spanish. Riders with Spanish as their phone’s language setting can take advantage of this feature instantly. In the future, we’ll be adding Chinese language support.
